ABS compatibility of earlier 210mm gear sets?

I have a 1983 500 SL which has a 2.24 ratio diff. I would like to install a limited slip case and preferably change the gear ratio to a more aggressive 2.65, 2.72, etc. The rear ABS sensor is mounted near the nose of the differential case. I have not yet found a good diagram or explanation of what the sensor is reading. On the front hubs, the sensor is in proximity to a toothed wheel which the magnetic pickup in the sensor reads. I assume a similar functional form on the front of the differential pinion. Is it machined on the pinion itself or is it a sleeve/component that is added during assembly? If earlier 2.65 sets can be substituted and retain the ABS capability, I should have lots of options. Otherwise I am limited to post 1980 2.72 sets that are comparatively rare. Finally, can series II gear sets from post 1985 r107 or w126  diffs be installed in an earlier diff case? Any insights would be appreciated.

Hello ?,

The adaption of the differential reduction to the ABS system takes place via a segment ring on the main shaft.
So is the combination:
i=2,24; z=43
i=2,47; z=39
i=2,72; z=35
i=2,82; z=34
This ensures that the number of pulses per path always remains the same,
The correct segment ring ist always mounted on used differntials, so you don´t need to care about it.

Thanks Frank! I appreciate the specific details you provided. As stated, I want to install a limited slip with gearing in the higher 2 range (2.47, 2.65, 2.72, 2.82). Would 1980 and earlier gearsets have the necessary segment ring since ABS was not generally available? If not, can a segment gear be added without additional machining? Do you know if post 1985 limited slips and gears can be installed in an older case? Thanks again for your insights.
