Manual transmission R107’s

Thanks for welcoming me to your group!
Was wondering if anyone knows,
how many r107’s were built with a manual transmission? I live in California and I have a 4speed manual euro 1974 280sl. Don’t see many manuals around here.

nice to meet you and your SL
From my point of view the SL and also the S (limousine) are more a luxury than a sports car and the automatic transmission is working fine, so most of the customers ordered it.
For me it´s more comfortable and a big benefit when getting into traffic.
Btw, it would be nice and helpful if you could add yot first name to your signature that everybody knows who he is talking to.

there is no statistics about that from Mercedes - or I do not know it. What I can see is the statistics of 240000 data cards with 60000 pre 82 missing. All cars up to 82 had automatic or manual gear box in their VIN. So there checking is easy. I urge you to send your data card to

Statistics of cars collected by Sternzeit 107:

• Totally 23% of 280, 300 and 350 are manual gear box. 380, 420, 450, 500 and 560 excluded as not available with manual gearbox
• 280 SL is 29% manual
• 280 SLC is 22% manual
• 300 SL is 18% manual
• 350 SL is 12% manual
• 350 SLC is 16% manual

Would it not be wonderful if we could also collect the missing 60000 data cards? Please all help and send them.

it is difficult to jugde the number of manual transmissions for R/C 107's delivered during the production time.
Maybe there is someone in this group, who has exact figures?

1. Manual gearboxes were offered as standard to all 6 cyl models (early M103, M110, even for the late 300SL) and for the early 350SL small V8 M116 only.
2. Automated gearboxes were offered only against surcharge, however I read a statement, saying that "by mid of 1976, 97.5% of all R/C107's were ordered with automated gearbox"!

So the number of manuals seems very limited.
