Hi Genco,

that is a new wish. Most people here use the hard top lift as they only ride their convertible when the sun shines. I have mine hanging from the ceiling since I bought my 450 SL 10 years ago. So do most of us. I am curious what answers you will get.

Yes, I can imagine they do. I will not be able to have proper garages, where its possible fix the lift to the ceiling. If I decide to keep the Benz will be always parked in a long term storage facility. They will not allow me to drill into their ceilings ;)

If I decide to keep the car in Spain it will be not an individual garage, but rather a enclosed car park. In both cases it needs to be stored in the trunk...preferably.

They come in a flat box when you order them. Thanks again!

Hi Genco,

you will not be able to remove and mount a hard top alone. Or if you do, you will scratch your soft-top lid and trunk heavily. Forget htis idea! Sell the hard top, you have a soft top should you ever drive in rain.

Hi Marrtin,

I could have bet that someone would now link this video :woohoo: . I propose that Genco should do a grey import of this SL to Shanghai and find some cheap Chinese workers who mount and remove it for him after watching this video. :cheer:

But if you remember that Genco wants to ride in LA or in Spain, I am rather doubtful whether he will ever use his hard top.

Hello,
there was a foldable hardtop stand available from Wiesmann. Please search for "Wiesmann Hardtopständer" and you'll find the pictures.
The idea makes perfekt sense to me. Use the Hardtop on the Autobahn to go to Austria for example and leave it in the hotel garage for the holiday time.
The car runs totally different with the hardtop installed, quiet and much more stable. A great coupe to go on the Autobahn.
In my opinion the R107 also looks most beautiful with the hardtop installed.

Hello Thomas,

I totally agree with you. Especially when you need to drive long distances then the hard top becomes crucial.

Thank you for the info. on the fordable stand. I just found and posted it in my previous post.

warum unterhaltet ihr euch hier in English - im Fred " Gruss aus China" läuft das doch auch sehr schön in Deutsch.
Für mich ist das kein Problem, weil mein Englisch perfekt ist!

Hi,

well Genco started this discussion first in English 107 forum and secondly in normal German as well: sternzeit-107.de/de/forum/forum-107/17684-hard-top-staender . That's why we continued in English. Why does it matter? Threads on 107 SL English forum end up on the latest forum entries if you switch to English menu. Otherwise it does not matter.

However I learned about a technical article with Wiesmann hard top stand that I did not even remember. Great! Still that leaves you with the need for a second person or turtle.
