Jim did a full restore of his car and of course he did not like his sun visors to be old bumpy style. They needed an overhaul to make them look great again. Buying new sun visors was too easy. Being a self-made man Jim restored them.

Checking and repairing mono valve or duo valve in MB 107, 123, 126 and others

It took till September 1981 that R107 SL received a heating system with pulsed mono or duo valves from Bosch, right hand steering cars even never received it. W126 was already equipped with this system since it was launched and kept it till its end, W123 received it in August 1980 but only for automatic climate control. Pulsed valve inserts were specified to operate 4 million times but they never made it to that spec. That is why these pulsed heating systems often fail or have a bad control of temperature. Decode US VIN of 107 SL

As of August 1983 the US has its own 17 character long VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Unfortunately this VIN does not comply with the internationally used FIN (Fahrzug Identifikations Nr. or Fahrgestell Nr.) used by MB elsewhere. So all official papers in the US use this VIN. It can be decoded to an MB international FIN and you can read model year, safety restraint system and production plant form it. Here is even a program to decode it.

MB 450 engines M117 in R/C107

Mercedes-Benz used same engine numbers M117.982 (D-Jetronic) and M117.985 (K-Jetronic) to deliver different engine versions for Europe / standard, the USA (emission regulated) and low compression (NV= niederverdichtet) markets with lower fuel quality both in 450SL and 450SLC as well as with other numbers in W108 280 SE(L) 4.5 and W116 450SE . But in reality these are very different engines that vary in compression, power, torque, cam shaft and emission control a lot.

Installation instructions for Becker radios and receivers

Becker Radio in the 70s published an installation instruction 06/1975 till 07/1977 for one and two block devices to be installed in 107 SL / SLC.für die Ein- und Zweiblockgeräte in den MB 107 SL / SLC. Old Sternzeit-107 (Startime-107) became old and rusty and had to be renewed by a new forum. Normally admins open a new forum and history disappears in a soon gone archive. But here history of the old Sternzeit with its Forum 107 and more than 200 workshop articles around Mercedes-Benz 107 SL/SLC together with 9600 users at that time were the most important things to save. That is why we preserved exactly this history for browsing and searching, just with new clothes. It was a months full-time project to ensure that this history was not lost. And yes, it is now available in English too! Before I tell you more details, most important question first:

How can you login again as an old user?

Every single user including its dara like name, username, avatar, city, hobies etc. were taken into account. Only one detail I could not copy out of technical reasons: Your password. Sternzeit-107 is far more secure thant the old forum and demands an up-to-date encryption of passwords. That is why you have to ONCE request and set a new password even if you are already present as user. A little effort for more security so to say. In order to do that follow these steps:

Afte that click on Forgot password
Now enter your email address. You will receive an email from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. within a few minutes. If you do not receive it you have either entered wrong email or check your spam folder!
You will find a confirmation code in your email. Enter it together with your Username
Now you can set a new password. It must contain uppercase, lowercase, 2 digits and a special character.and hava at least 8 chars.
Now solve a captcha (protects from spammers) and accept terms of service
And off you go!
