Becker 612 tape function was created by AlterSchinken
My '85 is equipped with the Becker Grand Prix model 612. I just replaced the tape belts as well as the two pinch roller idlers. These parts were broken from the time I got the car. The tape drive now runs, the play, fast forward, rewind, side switch, eject all work correctly. The radio also plays correctly from both speakers. However, now when I insert a tape, I get only a very faint sound from the speakers when the volume is at maximum. I can hear the music playing clearly, but barely. Both sides of the tape play the same way, as do multiple different cassettes. There is no wobble or other unusual sound, just extremely faint volume. I did thoroughly clean the tape head while I had it apart. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Unkown,
maybe you Tape is too old? I have the same Problem with my old Tapes. The new one are playing with the same loudness as the radio. When you cant solve the Problems i think your radio Must repared by an specialist.

Sorry about the name, I suppose I was thinking it would be applied from the profile. I don't have any new tapes, but I did have an aux input tape adapter to try. Turns out it worked, not the best sound quality but it did play at normal volumes. After playing around with this for a while, I then inserted the same old tape (probably late '80s vintage) and it plays perfectly. The sound quality is far better than expected (I didn't expect much to be honest) and I get full volume. No idea what happened but for now I will take it. Thanks again for your insight!

Hi Jim , probably the head was dirty and with the Adapter you scratched it free. Be happy and Listen to the Rock n Roll
