(sorry for this post in English, but I dont speak/write German - however I do understand, so replies in German are OK !)

My 1982 500 SL doesnt start. Apparently no firing (no sparks at the spark plugs). As I disconnected the battery very often last days, I thought maybe the overload relay (überspannungs relais) could be wrong. Where do I find this relay ? Is it always a relay with a fuse on top ? I only see grey ones it in the fuse box. Or is is different in older 500 models ?

any comment appreciated ! Kris

Kris,

they usually look like a silver box about 2.5cm square, about 8cm tall, with a plastic top, and a transparent cover over a fuse of some description. I had a look for one in my 85 500 and it doesnt have one. Yours might not have one either. Check all the fuses first, then check all the other bits as well. No spark could be caused by all sorts of troubles, not least a burned out ignition amplifier.

The chaps here are very helpful and speak excellent English. Im sure someoone more knowledgeable than me will post up soon.

Good Luck.
