As you know, my AC is off (bad compressor) but from my BMW I know that I could straightly convert to R134a with no troubles at all ... if its the same with Mercedes system ... unfortunately I cant say it for sure ... I leave it for somebody here with more knowledge of Mercedes systems to get back to you with this
Take care,
Afshin

a better alternative is R413 ! R 134 a maybe damage your tubes and fittings. R 413 is the conversion product of the formerly used R12.

Hi Afshin
One time I had an audi A3 ,the A/C was not giving a sufficeint cooling I took that for an regular technician,he said the gas required! he started filling with R12 in the compressor loop,he it is the same after one month exactly my compressor jammed which cost me alot for replacing that into anew one, then I came to know why manufacture spcify such a special gas (R134a).

You should not use the R134 gas with the old R12 oil that will probably kill the compressor after some time.
R413 is also possible, as Gerd mentioned, if you can get.
