I'm not sure what those "black boxes" are, but if it's those I marked with a red circle:
 
...then it wouldn't be true that only MY '72 hat CR 8:1. This photo was taken from a 1970 6.3 for sale, and I found several other cars from 1970 which had these boxes. All cars I found for sale from 1968/1969 lack the boxes.
