Tacho needle shaft was created by stan73
Dear all,

I have a problem with one 560SL tacho,
I have experience with 4-5 tachos and this one is first with problem.
When I tried to remove the needle, the needle shaft broke.
Never faced such problem, I believe shaft is not pull out from inside the spring, just torn around 3 mm from the needle.
Is it worth dismounting the tacho and try to connect the shaft with needle or everything is gone and I have to search another tacho ?

Hello Stan,

if the shaft of the needle is brocken, unfortunally the speedometer is gone.

You have to look for a replacement.

But read this first by using a translator so you will better find a matching one.

Hi Stan,

I can confirm that your speedometer is dead now - what a pity. Problem ist that shaft on electric speedometers is so thin that it can break.

yes, too pity,
but it can happened to anyone :-)
It is steel shaft in aluminum sleeve of the needle.
Heat the shaft is not option, a lot of plastic around.
Penetrating liquid will make big mess…
How can prevent such problem?
Maybe someone from the forum has tacho for selling?

Stan

Hi Stan,

the shaft has 1.2 mm diameter in both mechanical and electrical speedometers. But in electrical versions it reduces to half of diameter on last cm. And that part is what you have torn off. I have diassembled such a roken device and found those details. What I do in such cases is that I slaughter an old speedometer from my stock and use it. But then moving coil and electronics have to be retuned to new speedometer. That I can only achieve in several steps of retuning reassembling disasselmbling, retunign ... and not in one step only.
