Tecalan is a manufacturing company for air -pneumatic- and hydronic lines, tubing. Hoses.

Inserts, I would call it also fitting.

To connect the “flex” tubing, pre bend tubing to the proper fitting, connector. DIN / AN - Army-Navy .

Hi Jim,

at first KA-Jetronic cars used to have a damper between fuel distributor and warm up regulator to dampen hydraulic noise. This was omitted when they introduced metal pipes with tecalan (=Polyamid) insert.

Hi Volker, I plan to re-plate this and other parts with zinc and yellow passivate, do you have any experience of this and whether the pipe internal structure could be damaged by alkaline or acidic attack?

Google suggests that polyamide will be attacked by acid so will need to find a way to blank off the ends of the pipe.

Hi Jim,

you can see on your photo how the pipe is doubled up a few [strike]cm[/strike] inches away from fitting. I have no experience whether this insert would suffer from heat and acid. As I wrote tecalan it is a PolyAmid version. I see heat more critical than acids.

OK, I found an easy solution to blank the ends of the pipe.

I will experiment on my spare system first.

Blanking plug made of brass on the lathe. M12 1.5mm thread, I did not have a die so tried single point screw cutting for the first time.

That will prevent acid or alkali getting inside the tube.

Hi Jim,

it is a good idea to close all of these pipes before replating. You will find ready made M12x1,5 plugs to close them.

This will be a long process to get all the parts cleaned and plated but will look good once complete. I have now made up a collection of end stops for all of the various threads and genders.

Cleaned with a "scotch" pad and de-greased.

A bath in citric acid to remove the rust and old plating, with an immediate reaction.

After a few hours, then cleaned up with a wire brush and scotch pad.

Its condition now looks better than expected.
